Climate change and the coastal communities in Tamil Nadu

It is always said that the climate change is going to affect the poor and the vulnerable, but in the very discussion on climate change the poor and kept away from it. The very undemocratic nature of the debate it self is very disappointing, and is revolving around bringing more money to certain groups orto the governments. In reiterating the need to bring out the community perspectives on climate change crisis, it is very important for us as a group to understand the perception of vulnerable people. Therefore we have evolved aset of participatory tools. This is also to tell the policy makers that the communities can live with pride and honor, and based on this they, not only can have a sustainable ecological and self reliant future themselves, and also they have the capacity to come out of the crisis.

This process helped the fishers to celebrate their knowledge what they have practiced before the trawlers and zeronets destroyed the fish in the sea. I have attached my presentation about the tools and the adaptation mechanism during the displacement seminar organized by Siemenpuu Foundation between 10th and 11th June 2010 in Finland.
