These scientists have made outstanding contributions in the field of meteorology, climatology, hydrology and related sciences. The IMO Prize, the highest WMO award, originates from WMO's predecessor, the IMO, which was founded in 1873. Professor Taroh Matsuno of Japan, an eminent research scientist in the field of atmospheric dynamics and a distinguished leader in climate research, was awarded the 55th IMO Prize.
The prizes awarded also include the Norbert Gerbier-MUMM International Award and the WMO Research Award for Young Scientists.
